The mayor of the artist’s hometown in Brazil, Campinas, was murdered for political reasons hours before the towers were hit in New York in 2001. The local news, including the city’s main newspaper, prioritized the story from overseas. The crime was never solved. The artist replaced the logo of Correio Popular, the major newspaper in Campinas, by the New York Times logo and with the pagination in blank. The first headline, from top to bottom, says: “Terror Attacks in USA”. The one below says: “Campinas Say Goodbye to Toninho”. The distribution of the newspaper is ongoing, occurs every September 12th in the city and will be maintained until the murder is clarified.
